Special Budget Meeting Minutes
January 27, 2014

A meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held this date in the Meeting Room, Town Hall, Northeast Harbor, Maine.

Those present included: Chairman Tom Richardson; Selectmen, Matt, Hart, and Dennis Shubert; staff members Town Manager Durlin Lunt, Treasurer Kathi Mahar, Police Chief Jim Willis, Lieutenant Keven Edgecomb, Fire Chief Mike Bender, and Public Works Director Tony Smith; and members of the public.

I.      Call to order at 4:00 p.m.
Chairman Richardson called the meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.

II.     New Business
A.      Budget review, Public Safety
The review started with the Police Department and Chief Jim Willis was present to answer questions.  Discussion included the CIP, Chief Willis’ duties with the Town of Bar Harbor, completion of the building renovations, and a new phone system.

Fire Chief Bender was present to answer questions.  He explained the restructuring of the volunteer firefighter pay to include a part-time per diem position (non-member of Mount Desert), on-call coverage in the summer using our volunteers, and training stipends.  Recruitment funds are increased.  Membership is reaching critical status.

It was agreed that the “Notes” section of the budget is very helpful and to include them in the final budget that is reproduced in the Annual Town Report.

III.    Adjournment

MOTION:  At 5:42 p.m., Selectman Shubert moved, seconded by Selectman Hart, to adjourn the meeting.  The vote was in favor, 3-0.
